I checked out the Hollo Road retention pond before the rain showers arrived. There was a Blue-winged Teal with 4 Green-winged Teal in the pond.
I got a photo showing the big size difference between the Blue-winged Teal and the surrounding Mallards. The light area near the base of the bill is also noticeable.
I then noticed a group of very light-colored shorebirds, which turned out to be 14 Semipalmated Sandpipers, a surprisingly high number for our area.
Another group of 21 Least Sandpipers plus 2 Lesser Yellowlegs were also there.
A short walk along the Palmer Bikeway until the showers began produced a Wood Duck, a Common Merganser, an Eastern Wood-Pewee, a Red-eyed Vireo, a Black-and-white Warbler, and 5 American Redstarts.
