A Late Day Pond Run ~ August 25, 2025

I did a late day run to a few of the close ponds. The nearby Hollo Road retention pond was still very full, but it did have 2 Solitary Sandpipers and a Lesser Yellowlegs feeding at its edge. The Tatamy Exit retention pond held 3 Lesser Yellowlegs.

I walked the paved path at Green Pond to search the two back ponds. Four Green Herons were at the Farmersville Road pond and six more were in the back middle pond.
Also in the back middle pond was the long-staying Little Blue Heron. Surprisingly, it flew right past me from the back side of the pond and landed on the near side where I got some of the best photos of it so far.

Three Eastern Phoebes and 3 Eastern Bluebirds were perching on the fence along the pond in between sallies for food. One of the phoebes appeared to have no tail, but my photos show that is was in the process of growing new tail feathers.

Other birds seen there included 3 Spotted Sandpipers, a Killdeer, a Sharp-shinned Hawk, an Eastern Kingbird, Tree, Barn, and Northern Rough-winged Swallows, and American Goldfinch.

A Great Egret and a Double-crested Cormorant were also at the Green Pond Road retention pond.

The Newburg Road retention pond produced 12 Killdeer in the grassy field and a Great Blue Heron at the pond.

The last stop was the St. Luke's Anderson Campus pond where I found five more Green Herons.
