Brambling in Ohio and Western Tanager in PA ~ February 21, 2016

At 1:30 AM on Sunday, the 21st, Stephen Kloiber, Mike and Corinne Schall, and I started the 6-hour drive to Medina, Ohio to see a Brambling that had been there since late December. Along the way, we picked up Paul John near Danville. The bird was there when we arrived and came back a second time before we left. I had seen my 'life' Brambling in Vancouver, British Columbia, so this was my first for the U.S.

We left Ohio, headed back into Pennsylvania, and stopped at the Snyder property near State College in the mid-afternoon where a Western Tanager had been spending the winter. Once again, we were lucky as the wait for the bird to come into the feeders was not long at all. This represented my first male seen in the state.

I got back home at around 9:00 PM with 852 miles on the trip odometer.
