The thunderstorms during the past two nights filled the west pond along Newburg Road by Koch Toyota and produced 17 Lesser Yellowlegs. Four Killdeer and 9 Horned Larks were in the field by the hospital.
The West Gremar Road retention pond in the newly-named Newburg Park held 3 Greater Yellowlegs, 17 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Solitary and 3 Least Sandpipers, plus a Pectoral Sandpiper.
I continued over to the Regency Boulevard ponds. They were still very full, so finding shorebirds was an impossibilty. I saw 2 Wood Ducks in the north pond and 4 Cedar Waxwings in the trees and on the fence along its edge.
This bird had an orange tail. This orange coloration, instead of the normal yellow, is actually caused by the bird consuming the fruit of an introduced honeysuckle species.
