Hollo Road ~ July 30, 2024
I checked out the Hollo Road retention pond. The water level was the lowest I had ever seen it, which exposed a lot of mud for shorebirds. A scoping of the area produced a Semipalmated Plover and a Semipalmated Sandpiper among 47 Least Sandpipers, 5 Solitary Sandpipers, and 4 Killdeer.
A Wood Duck was also there.

Evening Birding ~ July 27, 2024
I stopped at Green Pond around 7:30 PM and found one each of Spotted, Solitary, and Least Sandpipers, 2 Green Herons, and 2 Great Egrets, but the highlight here was the roughly 170 Northern Rough-winged Swallows lining the wires by the pond.
I then drove over to the Regency Boulevard ponds. The best bird there was a Hooded Merganser in the south pond.
Near sunset, I headed over to the Crayola warehouse near Hellertown where I used to work the afternoon shift. Occasionally when we would leave work, I'd hear and sometimes see Common Nighthawks flying around the parking lot lights. I stopped there and watched and listened for nighthawks but only found 3 Killdeer instead.

Trip to Erie, PA for Roseate Tern ~ July 18, 2024
A Roseate Tern had been spotted at Gull Point in Presque Isle State Park in Erie on the 16th. I was unable to try for it on the 16th or 17th because of prior engagements. Rick Wiltraut was willing to go along with me, so I picked him up after midnight and we started the six hour drive to Erie.
We got to the park right at sunrise and started the mile-long walk out to Gull Point.
We spent the next several hours atop the observation platform looking for the Roseate Tern, but it had apparently moved on. We did get to see the Tricolored Heron that had also been reported there.
A Whimbrel and a few Short-billed Dowitchers were also spotted while looking for the tern.
Approximately a dozen Caspian Terns and 5 Common Terns were mixed in among the large gull flock and occasionally flew by the platform.
A Belted Kingfisher and good numbers of Bank Swallows flew past, too.
Other notables seen during our visit included 2 Lesser Scaup, 6 Common Mergansers, a distant Piping Plover, 5 Spotted Sandpipers, 3 Lesser Yellowlegs, a Sanderling, 3 Bonaparte's Gulls, a Great Egret, 3 Ospreys, 5 Bald Eagles, a 'fly-by' Merlin, 2 Eastern Kingbirds, a Purple Martin, a Cedar Waxwing, and 3 Yellow Warblers.
We left the park disappointed around 3:00 PM and made the long drive back home.

Home Birding ~ July 14, 2024
I spent a little time on the back porch today and was surprised to hear a Veery regularly giving its downslurred "veer" call. I never did get to see it though. However, I did see a Brown Thrasher and a Gray Catbird and got a photo of both of them.
A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird also briefly visited the feeder.

Nazareth Quarry ~ July 12, 2024
After getting a haircut by my daughter, I stopped at the Nazareth Quarry. It was pretty empty except for 9 Double-crested Cormorants that were on the north shore among some Canada Geese. I took this very long distance documentation photo of them.

Trying Out My New Camera at Green Pond ~ July 11, 2024
Yesterday, my new Nikon D850 camera arrived, so I did some birding today to try it out. My first stop was Green Pond where I found a Great Egret and a Green Heron. The Great Egret was all the way at the back edge of Green Pond, but I still managed to get a few decent photos of it.
The Green Heron at the retention pond across Farmersville Road was a lot closer, so I got a chance to take some more detailed photos of it.
I also took test photos of a Red-winged Blackbird, an American Robin, and a Song Sparrow.

Eastern Bluebird Nest at my Mom's ~ July 2, 2024
My mom had been letting me know about the progress of a pair of Eastern Bluebirds that had taken up residence in her bluebird box by her garden. The female had laid four eggs a while ago and they had now hatched. I stopped there today and took a couple photos as the parents took turns delivering food to their young.
