I had just come from a meeting with the Martins Creek PPL power plant manager at the pond along Depues Road concerning continued access to the pond after additional cameras were installed there. I got to show him the 26 Common Mergansers and 9 Buffleheads through my scope that were there. That meeting went well, so we can continue to bird there through the fence.
I drove down to the boat launch where I found an immature Bald Eagle, an additonal 11 Common Mergansers, and 28 Ring-billed Gulls.
I was heading for the Nazareth Quarry when I got a call from Arlene Koch telling me that she had just been over to Bill Wallace's house where Sandy Lockerman had just banded an immature male Rufous Hummingbird coming to his feeders. She said the feeders were only visible from the house and that Bill didn't want the bird publicized because of that, but he was fine with me coming over to see it. I called Bill and asked for permission to come over and he said, "Sure, but it hasn't been seen for a couple hours since it was banded." That often happens, so I hoped that it might evenutally return. At Bill's house, I got to meet Sandy Lockerman for the first time. We all talked about different experiences while birding out west. About a half-hour or so after I arrived, the bird did return. I got these two photos through the window.
These photos were later taken outside from the deck.
I thanked Bill for the opportunity to see his bird and drove to an afternoon appointment. Afterwards, I checked out the Green Pond area, which held a Killdeer, a Belted Kingfisher, 3 Eastern Bluebirds, and 9 Cedar Waxwings.
At the Newburg Road retention pond, there were still 7 Killdeer present among the Canada Geese.
