I went to Housenick Park this morning. It was dreary with occasional drizzle, which can sometimes be good for grounding migrants, but there wasn't much activity. Birds present were Wood Duck, Common Merganser, Great Blue Heron, Bald Eagle, Great Crested Flycatcher, Red-eyed Vireo, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Northern House Wren, Wood Thrush, White-throated and Savannah Sparrow, Baltimore Oriole, Scarlet Tanager, and warblers that included Ovenbird, Yellow-rumped, Black-throated Green, Northern Parula, and Common Yellowthroat. The Great Blue Heron was seen with nesting material in its beak.
The Regency Boulevard ponds were pretty dull, holding 3 Lesser Yellowlegs, 3 Killdeer, and a Spotted Sandpiper. The weird sighting was of a pair of Mallards standing on the peak of a two-story house.
The nearby flooded area along Steuben Road produced a fairly late Wilson's Snipe, 5 Solitary Sandpipers, 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 10 Least Sandpipers.
The Newburg Park pond produced 3 Spotted Sandpipers, 2 Solitary Sandpipers, 3 Killdeer, and a Baltimore Oriole singing from a nearby tree.
Down the road, the Trio Farms Boulevard retention pond held 2 Green Herons and the continuing Common Gallinule.
The last stop at Green Pond yielded a Spotted Sandpiper, a Green Heron, and a Baltimore Oriole.
