Black-headed Grosbeak in PA! ~ December 17, 2002
On the 16th, Frank and Barb Haas got word of a Black-headed Grosbeak visiting a feeder in southern Lancaster County. I got down there in the early morning and, eventually, the bird showed up. I was not only glad to see the bird but also got a photo of it.
Black-headed Grosbeak in Drumore Township, Lancaster County on December 17, 2002. This photo, slightly blurred by a slow shutter speed, shows the large beak, mostly dark head, buffy nape, bright buffy underparts, and large white wing patches. This adult nonbreeding male represents the 1st record for Lancaster County.
