It was a county bird for both of us and the first male that I'd seen in the state.

Painted Bunting in Northampton County! ~ April 26, 1996
A message on the 'Birdline' tape machine informed me of a possible male Painted Bunting that was noted at a backyard feeder in Northampton County. I called the lady back and she invited Rick Wiltraut and I to her house possibly see it and document it. The bird showed up soon after we arrived and I was able to get this photo of it through their back window.
Painted Bunting near Delps, Northampton County. Note the blue-violet head, light green back, and orange-red underparts. This adult male was visiting the Kindreds' feeder and represents the 2nd record for Northampton County.
