Nazareth Quarry ~ July 12, 2024

After getting a haircut by my daughter, I stopped at the Nazareth Quarry. It was pretty empty except for 9 Double-crested Cormorants that were on the north shore among some Canada Geese. I took this very long distance documentation photo of them.

Dave DeReamus: Way back in 1973, my parents took me to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary where I saw a good flight of Broad-winged Hawks and my first Bald Eagle. 'Hooked' as a hawkwatcher, I became a "regular" at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary from 1974 through the early 1980's, learning most of my raptor ID skills from others like Jim Brett and Babe Webster. I assisted with and occasionally kept the official count. I monitored the Spring migration from Smith Gap in 1980 and 1981 and started the Morgan Hill Hawkwatch in 1982, where I monitored the Spring migration through 1987.

My boundaries gradually expanded from hawkwatcher to "birder" in the mid-80's. I started the 'Eastern PA Birdline' in 1991 and compiled it for 30 years until 2021. My Eastern PA Birding website has information on birding the Lehigh Valley area.

Over the years, my travels have covered all 50 states, six Canadian provinces, and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
